Fellowship
Program
The
main objective of our program is to provide radiologists with in-depth training
in vascular and non-vascular radiological interventions. At completion of the one-year program, fellows will have a
high level of expertise in performing procedures such as percutaneous biopsies,
fluid and abscess drainages, interventions in the biliary system, the GI and GU
tract. Vascular procedures include
diagnostic angiography and therapeutic interventions such as angioplasty, TIPS,
and transcatheter embolotherapy of acute hemorrhage or non-resectable neoplasms.
Our section performs approximately 5,000 invasive procedures per year,
and each fellow handles about 600 cases during their year of training.
In
addition, we offer training in evolving minimally-invasive therapies including
percutaneous ablation of tumors, insertion of vascular stent grafts in the aorta
and other novel procedures.
Active
participation in clinical case conferences and teaching of residents is
expected. Some participation in
clinical and basic research relating to interventional radiology is required.
Fellows attend at least one major meeting during their year of training.
The
department has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation, having just
completed new angiographic suites and installed new ultrasound equipment and an
interventional helical CT scanner with CT-fluoroscopy.
Fellows with an interest in MRCP, MRA or CT-angiography may arrange
elective months pursuing these interests.
Our
interventional radiology fellowship program was fully accreditated by the ACGME
in April, 2000.
